something new
If you know who I am, you probably know a few things about me. 1. I have an accent. No, I am not French. I was born in Spain and right after I graduated from college, I moved to the States with my boyfriend, now my husband, who I met in the beautiful city of Cordoba. 2. I have three kids. They are 14, 13 and 8. No, I didn’t have them while I was still in high school and no, I am not their babysitter looking for a job to take care of more kids. The reasons why I am mention this is because these were some of the assumptions people made about me. I am in my mid forties, and I guess I still look young to have two teenagers and almost a pre-teen. And I guess that having an accent and speaking Spanish to my kids while in public, it gives the impression to people that I am just the typical European au-pair living the life in the States! Believe me. I had people coming to me and asked me if I was looking for a job as a babysitter because they knew of a few families that would love to have me in their lives! I appreciated the offer, but…. no, thank you! Living in the States for almost half of my life has made me live through enough anecdotes to write a book about how to be an immigrant in the United States without being offended. I will start that project when I retire!
And speaking of new projects, here it’s something new. 3. I am starting a second business. Second? Wait! What’s your first? I have been a textile artist (aka fiber artist, but if I use that word, then people will make the assumption that my work is related to food high in fiber…Yes, another anecdote. Oh, boy!). I learned Surface Design, then weaving, then felting, then Joomchi, and then painting….Yep! I am an artist!! While I love what I do, I thought I could take advantage of some of my skills and why not to use some of my designs and add them to products. Look around you right now. How many things you see have a pattern or a cute design? I am sure your cell phone case has flowers, or polka dots, or cactus, or rainbows, right? BTW, all of these are still trendy. I think I have seen cactuses for at least 2 good years and they are still in the trend!
Anyway, this will be my new adventure. I will still felt, I will still teach, but this pandemic is telling me that I have to do something else or I would lose my mind! So, I hope I can get your support and if you see I am making something that it’s not worth the effort or the time, please tell me! And if you have ideas of designs that you would love to see out there, please tell me too! And if you still want to see know a little bit about my original work as a textile artist, visit my other website: www.evacamacho.com
I will come soon!
